Arsenal return to European club football’s top competition for the first time since the 2016/2017 season. They have consistently progressed beyond the group stages in the past and will be expecting to do the same once more. The Gunners are unbeaten so far in the Premier League, notching up 4 wins and 1 draw in their opening five matches, so will be confident ahead of this meeting with PSV.

The Dutch side will be similarly upbeat as they sit atop the Eredivisie after beating NEC Nijmegen 4-0 at the weekend. PSV had to navigate the qualifying rounds to make it to the group stage of the Champions League, knocking out SK Sturm Gratz and Rangers. Forward Luuk De Jong will be the north Londoner’s main concern. The former Newcastle man has already bagged four goals and three assists in PSV’s opening four league matches.

These clubs are fairly familiar with each other, having met in the Champions League on six previous occasions. The score stands at two wins for Arsenal, one for PSV and three draws. The last time they met was in the last 16 in 2006/2007 when PSV won the tie 2-1 on aggregate.

The Gunners return to Europe's elite competition for the first time since the 2016/17 season and get their campaign underway against a familiar face.

PSV were in Arsenal's Europa League group last season, with the most recent meeting ending in a 2-0 defeat for Mikel Arteta's side in October. The Gunners will be hoping to make an impact on their return to the Champions League having restored their status as a club among Europe's elite with a second-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

Arsenal are unbeaten after five matches this season, winning four and drawing one with Sunday's 1-0 win at Everton putting down another marker after a superb 3-1 defeat of Manchester United a week earlier. With the Champions League returning for its 32nd edition in its current format, all eyes will be on a stacked couple of days of action across the competition.

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United is likely to get top billing on Wednesday despite Arsenal and Real Madrid also being in action, allowing Arteta's men to go under the radar on a big night of European football. Arsenal's game against PSV will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1 with coverage getting underway at 7:45pm following Real Madrid vs Union Berlin.

For Arsenal vs. PSV, Green is picking both teams to score and over 2.5 goals to be scored for a -105 payout. The expert expects a serious matchup for both sides as each are playing very well in their respective leagues. He does give the edge to Arsenal, however, even though PSV are undefeated in their last night matches across all competition.

They qualified for the competition for the first time since the departure of Arsene Wenger after pushing Manchester City in a title fight last season - surpassing the expectations.

It was an important psychological milestone when they beat Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday - the first time in five visits - and sees them remain just two points behind Manchester City in the Premier League.

Arsenal have not had a straightforward start to the season when it comes to injuries, including the man who could give them the inside information on the Eredivisie, the summer signing from Ajax Jurrien Timber.

Timber sustained an ACL injury and faces months on the sidelines, but more problematic for the Gunners was the injury Gabriel Martinelli picked up during the game at Goodison Park, and he had to leave the field in the first half with a hamstring problem.

Gabriel Jesus is working towards being fit enough to play a full match but Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny remain on the long-term injured list.

With the home advantage and given their form so far this season, the start to the group stage will go in favour of Arsenal, but it will not be straightforward and they will have to earn their result.

After six years away from Europe’s top table, the Gunners are back in the competition and looking to make an impression, having pushed Manchester City so close in the Premier League title race.

Group B looks to be, on paper, a favourable draw for Arsenal, who have matches against Lens and and Sevilla to come.

While Mikel Arteta’s side have not yet found the free-flowing football they produced for the majority of last season, it has still been a strong start to the campaign from the unbeaten Gunners.

They now take on a familiar foe in Dutch giants PSV, with these two teams having faced each other in the group stages of last season's Europa League. Honors were even last year: Each side won their respective home game in those two encounters.

The Gunners beat PSV Eindhoven at home before losing away in last season's Europa League group stage and Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side can get the job done against the Dutch outfit on home soil once again.

Arsenal head into the match in fine form as Sunday's 1-0 victory against Everton, courtesy of Leandro Trossard's second-half effort, continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Gabriel Martinelli is a doubt to face PSV, however, after limping out of the Goodison Park clash with a muscle injury, while Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber remain long-term absentees. There could also be a change between the sticks after David Raya got the nod ahead of Aaron Ramsdale at Everton.
